Proud to be... The Town of Millet!

The Town of Millet is nestled on Highway 2A, 45 km south of Edmonton and 20 km south of the International Airport, right alongside the original Pacific Railway built in 1891. Traveling south from Edmonton on Calgary Trail or from the Airport on QE2 Hwy, take exit #616/2A to Wetaskiwin from the Leduc overpass and join us for a visit. Millet began with a single store owned by Ben Slaughter. The Town was named for August Millet, Ben Slaughter’s fur supplier and canoe man for Father Lacombe, and reached village status on June 17, 1903. Many disasters including major fires in 1902, 1927, 1996 and 1997, although devastating, only strengthened the community’s sense of comradeship, dedication and pride in rebuilding.

On September 1, 1983, Millet was declared a Town. A general election was held with the change to Town status; 6 Councilors and a Mayor were elected. Housing and acreage developments have since been on a steady increase.

A picturesque community, Millet centers on a 65-acre park system with a combination of natural and manicured area. Parks in this community are second to none in Alberta and the downtown is a matter of pride for the community. This pride is evident throughout the community, private homes, businesses, streets, churches, schools, library and public facilities all contribute to providing a clean and safe environment.

Millet continues to be active in educational and recreational programs throughout the year that are supported by numerous groups and organizations. Leisure activities, sport and cultural activities are available for all age groups, from preschool to seniors.

Millet is a proud participant in the National Communities in Bloom Program since 1996 receiving recognition across Canada for its beauty, charm and friendly rural atmosphere. Through the dedication of volunteerism and community endeavours, Millet blooms!

About Millet

Millet is a close-knit community with all amenities included. Called a "bedroom" community, Millet is a pleasant, quiet, get-away-from-it-all, kind of place.

There is a Fresh Market grocery store, two gas bars, a laundromat, three hair salons, a day spa, a car wash, a local library, a museum and pretty much everything you need, right here in town! Just a few kilometers outside of Millet we have Triple Creek Golf Club and Pipestone Links Golf Course. No need to go anywhere else if golfing is your sport of choice. In addition to golf, baseball and soccer are great spectator sports in the summer, and winter brings hockey teams from all over Alberta to our arena.

If shopping is your 'thing', Millet has many unique shops, such as Butterfly Boutique & Gifts, Kilborn Antiques and many more!  You can also go north or south 15 km and find shopping of all kinds in Leduc or Wetaskiwin.  If you like the big city type of shopping, another 20 minutes and you're in Edmonton or Camrose.

In the summertime, you can enjoy the beaches on Pigeon Lake or Wizard Lake - both an approximate 30 minute drive. But best of all, you get to come home to Millet, a town that greets you with a summer theme of Communities in Bloom!
